Description
The pioneer past comes alive at The Homestead, a mid-1800s, hand-hewn dogtrot cabin with huge white oak logs with chinking and beautiful dovetail notching. Located on top of a mountain road in the historic Timber Ridge Community of Gatlinburg – a community of authentic and antique log homes in a truly natural setting just off The Spur – The Homestead boasts majestic mountain views and is within minutes to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the national park.
Reclaimed in 2020 from a Roane County farm in West Virginia, The Homestead is a true dogtrot: two separate log cabins on either side of a breezeway – all under a common roof. In 2022, the Barnwood Builders transported the logs to Tennessee and reconstructed them on this site, to rebuild after the 2016 Gatlinburg wildfires. Each of the massive logs was painstakingly marked and tagged to enable accurate reconstruction and restoration of the original, early cabin. At 1,400 sq. ft., this cabin features high-stacked, chinked logs and exposed beams, along with tongue and groove construction.
The Homestead offers a rustic ambiance with modern convenience, comfort, and function. It has a fully furnished galley-style kitchen with granite countertops in the enclosed breezeway as well as a laundry. The original log cabins are located on either side. Each cabin consists of a king bedroom with built-in twin beds and a full bath with a shower/tub combo. The open living and dining area features a gas stone fireplace and mountain views both inside and outside on the full-length covered porch.
The porch has rockers, a dining table/chairs, and a hot tub, all providing exceptional outdoor living. Here cares melt away and nature is on display every day with natural vegetation, changing cloud formations, and colorful sunsets. Even rainy days offer cozy comfort on this mountain. Be watchful for bears and other wildlife as they stroll by. For outdoor cooking, a park-style grill is conveniently located in the parking area. This Smoky Mountain cabin also features a stacked washer/dryer, keyless entry, and only 3 steps up to reach the front porch.
Be surrounded by beauty, serenity, and history at The Homestead, where the quality and attention to detail respect the Smoky Mountain tradition.
If wishing to vacation with others, The Shed is mere steps away and can be booked with The Homestead and The Shed. Such a nice place to stay! Beautiful view!

Absolutely get stay
Loved the hot tub The directions to the homestead should specifically state that you will go past a sign that says “ timber ridge community , 24 hour surveillance etc. “ but makes no mention of cabins for you . The sign discouraged us initially

We loved the Homestead! It was one of the best vacations we’ve had in awhile. The cabin was very clean and as a mom to very small children and a baby- very much baby safe in my opinion! The only thing I wish I knew of ahead of time was the sharp turn right before you get the the cabin, if you have a bigger vehicle (we have a truck) you’ll likely have to back up in order to make that turn! But no issues what so ever with the cabin!

The views from the balcony were absolutely amazing. We were there for new year's eve and saw the firework display in Pigeon Forge from the balcony. It was beautiful. We had a peaceful and relaxing time. Definitely worth the drive up the mountain. Just make sure to be home before sunset, the narrow roads get sketchy in complete darkness. 10/10 would stay here again
