Description

The pioneer past comes alive at The Homestead, a mid-1800s, hand-hewn dogtrot cabin with huge white oak logs with chinking and beautiful dovetail notching. Located on top of a mountain road in the historic Timber Ridge Community of Gatlinburg – a community of authentic and antique log homes in a truly natural setting just off The Spur – The Homestead boasts majestic mountain views and is within minutes to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the national park.

Reclaimed in 2020 from a Roane County farm in West Virginia, The Homestead is a true dogtrot: two separate log cabins on either side of a breezeway – all under a common roof. In 2022, the Barnwood Builders transported the logs to Tennessee and reconstructed them on this site, to rebuild after the 2016 Gatlinburg wildfires. Each of the massive logs was painstakingly marked and tagged to enable accurate reconstruction and restoration of the original, early cabin. At 1,400 sq. ft., this cabin features high-stacked, chinked logs and exposed beams, along with tongue and groove construction.

The Homestead offers a rustic ambiance with modern convenience, comfort, and function. It has a fully furnished galley-style kitchen with granite countertops in the enclosed breezeway as well as a laundry. The original log cabins are located on either side. Each cabin consists of a king bedroom with built-in twin beds and a full bath with a shower/tub combo. The open living and dining area features a gas stone fireplace and mountain views both inside and outside on the full-length covered porch.

The porch has rockers, a dining table/chairs, and a hot tub, all providing exceptional outdoor living. Here cares melt away and nature is on display every day with natural vegetation, changing cloud formations, and colorful sunsets. Even rainy days offer cozy comfort on this mountain. Be watchful for bears and other wildlife as they stroll by. For outdoor cooking, a park-style grill is conveniently located in the parking area. This Smoky Mountain cabin also features a stacked washer/dryer, keyless entry, and only 3 steps up to reach the front porch.

Be surrounded by beauty, serenity, and history at The Homestead, where the quality and attention to detail respect the Smoky Mountain tradition.

If wishing to vacation with others, The Shed is mere steps away and can be booked with The Homestead and The Shed.
